Diesel engines are offered in several of the latest full-size pickup models, but only in heavy-duty, 3-quarter-ton and 1-ton versions. For 2014, Ram will be the first to offer a diesel in a light-duty pickup later this year when the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel arrives in dealer showrooms. The new diesel pickup will use the same 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 already fitted to the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel utility vehicle. The turbodiesel V-6 will power the truck through a new eight-speed automatic transmission that is already fitted to most other Ram 1500 models.

As for fuel economy, according to cars.com, the automaker expects the diesel pickup to achieve best-in-class fuel economy and torque. Ram expects that the EcoDiesel will offer better efficiency and range than the gasoline V6-powered 1500 and it already boasts the best-in-class highway fuel economy of 25 miles per gallon. Other fuel-saving elements of the Ram 1500 line will include active grille shutters, engine stop-start technology, and aerodynamic panels underneath the truck that give it what is said to be the lowest coefficient of drag among all full-size pickup trucks.

You should also expect to see what you already love about the Ram 1500, including Regular, Quad and Crew Cab sizes, along with safety equipment that includes side thorax airbags and full-length side curtain airbags, as well as electronic traction and stability control, trailer sway control, hill-start assist and automatic reverse pinch protection on the windows and sunroof. These features can be seen in the 2013 Ram 1500 at your local Las Vegas Ram dealer.

If that isn’t enough, for 2014, the Ram 1500 will offer a front park assist system, a first time offering on a full-size Ram pickup truck. The system uses four sensors located on the front bumper. The system can detect objects as far away as 47.2 inches. The Ram 1500 can also be equipped with a 7-inch multi-information screen that displays data in both text and graph form covering everything from digital speed readout to specific vehicle status information such as fuel economy, trailer towing information, outside temperature and trip data.

One thing you can be sure of is the EcoDiesel Ram 1500 will certainly get the job done while saving you money over the long haul. Stop by Chapman Dodge for more information.
